Emily Wu was born in California and began studying piano in Taiwan. She was accepted into the Junior High Division of the Affiliated Senior High School of the National Taiwan Normal University, where she studied with Chiao-Han Liao. At the age of 15, she auditioned for the Colburn Music Academy and was accepted to the studio of Fabio Bidini. She graduated in 2022 and continued studying with Prof. Bidini at the Colburn Conservatory of Music, holding a full scholarship. She has received masterclasses from Jean-Yves Thibaudet, Yoheved Kaplinsky, Edith Fischer, Boris Slutsky, Jerome Rose, Louis Lortie, and Juan Lago, and has attended summer festivals in the Valencia International Performing Arts Summer Festival and the Festival International de Piano de Malaga, as well as the 2021 and 2022 Colburn Piano Seminar. She won the Concerto Competition and First prize in the Festival International de Piano de Malaga Piano Competition and performed as a soloist with the Malaga Symphony Orchestra. She also won Second prize in the Valencia International Performing Arts Summer Festival Piano Competition. She gave her first solo recital at the age of 10 and has performed in concert halls including the Taiwan National Concert Hall, Thayer Hall, Zipper Hall, Mondavi Center, Walt Disney Concert Hall, and Teatro Manuel Espana Mijas. She was recently selected as a finalist in Colburn’s Concerto Competition.
