Pianist Sean Kennard Opens Chopin Salon With Études Op. 25

On Sunday, November 24, join us for our Chopin Salon featuring pianist Sean Kennard, an American artist with a “huge romantic sound and bold melodic vision” and winner of numerous competitions, including the Bronze medal at our 2005 National Competition.

Kennard will open his performance with Chopin's Études Op. 25.

The Études are divided into three sets, or solo studies, for the piano published during the 1830s. There are twenty-seven compositions, and Op. 25 is a collection of 12. The pieces for Op. 25 were composed at various times between 1832 and 1836, and were published in 1837 in France, Germany, and England.

Though a matter of speculation, this set was dedicated to Franz Liszt's mistress, Marie d'Agoult, a Franco-German romantic author and historian.

Chopin's Études formed the foundation for what was then a revolutionary playing style for the piano, and are some of the most challenging and evocative pieces of all the works in concert piano repertoire. These pieces often require both dexterity and velocity, good balance of the arms, as well as flexible finger stretches.

Hear Sean Kennard perform select pieces from Chopin’s Études Op. 25 during our intimate Chopin Salon gathering on Sunday, November 24.
